May 22-June 5, 2023

TUSCANY, EMILIA-ROMAGNA, LAKE COMO - Italy is on one the most beautiful places on earth! While we will be visiting some popular areas, this trip will focus on the REAL Italy...not just the touristy sites. We'll spend two weeks living in local homes, touring with local residents, learning more about their country, their customs, their history, their cuisine, their every day life. The trip includes stays in three separate regions of Italy: Barberino Val D'elsa in Tuscany, Campora in the Emilia-Romagna region, and Lake Como in the Lombardy region. We'll enjoy their fabulous restaurants and participate in cooking classes. We'll explore the natural beauty of the country, visit a parmesan cheese factory, and learn how to make an authentic Italian pizza. And, of course, we'll take in a wine tasting or two. But most of all, we'll enjoy the people we meet along the way. This will be a trip to remember!

Sustainable Tourism in Italy

Italy has been one of the environmental sustainability leaders in Europe. Many businesses in Italy are at the European forefront of improving the environment, as well as promoting respect for all people, inclusion and social solidarity. They are leading other European nations in lowering greenhouse gas emissions, consuming fewer raw materials, consuming less energy, and recycling.

Unfortunately, over-tourism is destroying the natural beauty of so many areas, Venice for instance. The Italian government is encouraging travelers to visit the smaller, lesser known villages which offer outstanding natural beauty and authentic Italian culture. That is the goal of this trip.

What Makes This Trip So Special

Limited to just 7 women! The beauty of small-group travel is that our itinerary is somewhat flexible.

Van Travel - We will travel through Italy in a 9-person van so as not to miss the beautiful countryside. This gives us the flexibility to stop whenever we want to just to soak it all in.

Lodging - We will be staying in local homes, not hotels, and experience Italy like the locals. This also gives us a chance to really get to know each other. Friendships are made and reunions are often requested after returning home from the trip.

NO MARK-UP for single occupancy, but single rooms are available on a "first come/first served" basis.

Meals - In each house, the kitchen will be stocked with breakfast foods catered to your prefences. For lunches and most dinners we will be eating out so you can order from the menu - no dining from a limited menu! I addition to dining out, two dinners will be at home, prepared by a private chef.

Activity level for this trip: Moderate
- you must be able to carry your own luggage, climb stairs (many stairs), get in and out of a van, walk at least 2 hours, and be comfortable on ferry boats.
(Women with mobility issues should consult their physicians.)
